About the event

Written By: Kemberley Parks Corbitt - Denham Springs, LA

Taylor Frey, a native of Morganza, has a natural talent for writing songs. In her album, Roots Run Deep, Taylor has written 12 songs about her beloved hometown of Morganza. Taylor’s songs highlight what makes Morganza special and unique. Frey says “I want to record the CD to show people how special Morganza is and what it means to me. When I started writing music 15 years ago, the only place I felt inspired to write was in Morganza.”

While talent and heart are something that Frey and the entire village of Morganza have, she needs our help to make this dream, this album, a reality. Frey wants to travel to Nashville to record her album, but the cost of recording a twelve song album is anywhere from $10,000 to $15,000. On Friday, May 3 at 7:00 pm, Frey will hold a concert where she will debut songs from the album as well as other songs she has written. All money collected will go to her “Roots Run Deep” album project. The concert will be held at her family’s farm, Four Oaks Farm, in Morganza, which serves as inspiration for some of her songs. It true South Louisiana fashion, homemade iced tea and lemonade will be served. There will also be donated homemade baked goods for sale as well.

Frey writes about experiences she had as a child growing up in Morganza. “All of the songs are either about Morganza or inspired by Morganza. I have a song called "Colors" that's about all colors that represent who I am, like white is for cotton. Black represents lost loved ones. Yellow reminds me of the yellow flowers in the green fields, and blue is window shutters. There's another song about the 2011 Morganza Spillway Flood called "Too Much Water, Not Enough Rain" that talks about the famed drought of 2011 and then the flood. “ One of her favorite songs called "Don't Waste Your Life" is about a man in prison who gives her wisdom and she writes down his words. “At the end the song, I put a piece of paper with the wise words on it and release it in the river for someone to find later.”

Taylor is reaching out to musicians in the parish as she puts together a band who want to be a part of the performance as well as future performances. She is looking for a violinist, (fiddle player) banjo player, and harmonica player. Any musician interested in collaborating, should call her. If you are interested in helping with the benefit concert, please RSVP at TaylorFreyMusic.Com or by calling Taylor directly.

Please invite friends and family to come out and support a local artist as we remember what Morganza is all about, faith, fun and family. This will be a night where both memories and history will be made.
